Modular Seams

For over 16 years, Simplygon has been pioneering the field of automated 3D content optimization, consistently introducing groundbreaking features. One of our latest innovations is Modular Seams, designed to optimize customizable characters in games.

The Modular Seams feature allows seamless alignment of interchangeable body parts such as heads, torsos, and legs in customizable characters, ensuring perfect alignment across all LODs. This maintains the integrity of character models, even when body parts are swapped.

Users can either let the system automatically detect seams or manually specify them. Once defined, the seams can be optimized using either a reduction ratio or a max deviation parameter, giving you precise control over the optimization process.

The Modular Seams feature integrates seamlessly with the Triangle Reducer, enabling an automated workflow for modular characters and eliminating the need for manual adjustments after optimization. Combined with Simplygon’s advanced skinning preservation techniques, this ensures high-quality character details are retained throughout the LOD chain.

Leveraging Distributed Batch Processing, the optimization can be scaled up to accommodate extensive game production demands.

Developed through close collaboration with Xbox Game Studios and other global partners, this feature has proven invaluable for optimizing customizable characters.
